Ruger is dropping a hint at their site about redefining a platform. So, what gun design will they mimic next? I’m guessing an AR. But it could be a 1911.
Update: For the record, I know what it is now. I’ve been sworn to secrecy. So, I can’t say.

Judging from the fact that two of their nine sidebar buttons are related to product recalls, maybe the platform they’re going to redefine is the UPS Call Tag.

Tam, now that’s funny!
Ruger redefining a platform.
The AR world doesn’t care for cast receivers.
I don’t know that the 1911 world would care for cast frames seeing as they don’t like MIM parts.
Maybe they are gonna make a M14? Springfield already uses cast receivers, so the public already finds that acceptable. And Ruger sure as hell can’t do any worse QC.

Perhaps they are going to redefine one of their own platforms. A Mini-14 with heavy barrel and an AR magwell? A belt-fed Blackhawk? Personally, I’d like to see a Not-So-Mini-14 — an inexpensive .308 autoloader would fit nicely in my household.

Well, at least one person is really excited about the mystery Ruger. Michael Bane posted this today on his website:
Michael seems pretty excited, too, judging from all the exclamation points…

They’re bringing back old style folder for the Mini-14, and they’re going to advertise it with the cast of the A-Team. At least that’s what I hope they’re doing…

Memo to myself: Swing by the Ruger exhibit at the NRA meeting this weekend.

LOL
Tam, I bet you’re right.

Well, I made this prediction on Bane’s blog, so I may as well set myself up for ridicule here, too.

.308
My guess…

Tam beat me to it.
Given that Ruger’s “redefining a platform” in the past seems to amount to nothing more than taking an old design and redoing it with different materials/features, consider me unimpressed (especially given the difficulties they have been having with those redesigns).
Perhaps they should stress more a little QA/QC, rather than trying to play catch-up-by-Xerox.

Can they make some larger-capacity magazines for the Mini-30 and 6.8 Ranch Rifle while they’re at it?

A couple of months ago I asked them to issue a new upper kit for the .380 LCP to convert it to 9mm, that way we can at least find some ammo to shoot it once in a while…. hope they were listening (hey, Ruger….HINT!)

I can always hope for a MP/STG-44 clone in 6.8SPC or 6.5 Grendal. Simple stamped parts, moderate power, a touch of historical interest. What could be better?
