Paper or plastic

Gun Nuts argue over 1911 v Glock, AR v. AK, 9mm v. 45, etc.

Now, they’re arguing over the material your holster is made of. Started with James, who said real men carry nylon. Ahab says:

The point is that cheap nylon holsters don’t hold the gun in a consistent location. For self defense or competition shooting, the butt of the gun needs to present in the same place every time, regardless of whether or not you’ve been moving around, getting in or out of a car, etc.

More from Tam.

Sebastian thinks everyone should calm down. I agree. Holster selection is a matter of preference and how much money you’re willing to spend. I have two spend holsters and three inexpensive holsters. Each serves a different purpose. I’ve spent more money on concealed carry holsters (Galco and CompTac) because they fit my style of carry. I have a cheap Uncle Mike’s nylon that I actually used at the GSSF shoot because it was easier to access than my CCW rig.

HA!; I listen to amatuers argue this bainless point all the time. The answers are very simple. USe what works. As for the choice of weapons, that is very personal choice but in most of these arguements I have found the best answer to be BOTH. Both the Ar and Ak have atributes over the other so I have both and utilize them buy usage. I am a little biased about the glock 1911 arguement but both are fine weapons that will get the job done, I PERSONALY dont care for glocks so I carry a 1911, that is my preferred weapon. I have shot tons of glocks and I dont like them but they are great, accurate functional weapons and get the job done. In My OPINION Nylon is only good for IWB concealmennt rigs. As a rule of thumb, most nylon is cheaply made and soft and will not hold possision. The nylon that will hold is usually so expensive that you may as well by leather(my preference). All oof these things being relavent, the arguements are really just skewed opinions(and from who would be the ??) and misinformation from people wjo dont always know what they are talking about:)

    WTF?

    Srsly, WTFingF?

Did you type that with your nose?

Is your Counterstrike server down or something?

  3. HardCorps Says:

Why would anyone want a holster that pancaked-shut after drawing? Why would someone want a holster that made it difficult to draw?

I can tell you one reason why one might carry nylon, or even a holster that doesn’t work perfectly, or fit perfectly, or isn’t perfectly secure.

I carried in cheap nylon holsters for years for this very reason.

This is primarily true for lefties, but can be for anyone who doesn’t carry one of the most popular guns.

If you are left-handed and don’t carry a Glock, 1911 or Sig, you are generally just SOL when it comes to the big holster makers. I couldn’t find a “custom fit” left handed holster for my Ruger P97 anywhere. So, I used “universal fit” nylon holsters.

Some of them worked great, were secure, fit well, and worked perfectly. Some of them…not so much.

To dismiss nylon…even cheap universal fit nylon…holsters as unusable is just flat wrong. Although some of them are, in fact, just flat terrible, there are cheap nylon holsters out there that get the job done just fine.

BTW: I recently bought a Crossbreed Supertuck IWB Holster for my CZ which looks very similar to the Comp-tac. Almost immediately after getting it in the mail, I got shipped off to the People’s Republic of California so I haven’t even had a chance to use it yet.

For the same reason beginning golfers shouldn’t spend $2,500 on their first set of clubs.

The last thing a beginner is going to want to do is drop a lot of cheese only to find out that his clubs are too short and that he’s going to have to buy another set.

Is the $250 set of clubs at Target a piece of crap? You bet. But they serve the purpose of learning the ‘how’. Once you learn what you need, then you can move up.

    Yu-Ain Gonnano,

    Expensive/good vs. inexpensive/bad = False Dichotomy.

  7. Yu-Ain Gonnano Says:

Of course. Like most things the cost/quality trade-off has a bell curve around it. But that doesn’t invalidate the general trend that they are positively correlated.

And when you have no idea what works and what doesn’t and gaining that knowledge really only comes from experimentation, it does make sense to *start* on the cheaper end of the scale. Especially when you don’t have a lot of money to experiment with. Once you’ve learned what works, then you get as high a quality gear as your budget allows.

It wasn’t the advocating of avoiding nylon that resulted in the full throated call of the drama llama it was the, “you’d be grossly irresponsible for allowing anyone to ever use nylon for any purpose whatsoever, what’s next crushing baby chicks under your boots you ignorant savage you, here let me enlighten you between wrong and right action” tone that sets the teeth on edge. If it is generated by the arrogance of youth then fine, hopefully a few more years will moderate such an attitude. If it was just to provoke people then good luck with that. My youngest occasionally tries to punch my buttons with provocative statements just to get a rise. The only button that gets pushed is the ignore the kid button.

  9. Kristopher Says:

The only proper holster should be one made from the hide of a dead victim-disarmament supporter.

  10. Magus Says:

Yeah, it was the whole “you’re irresponsible to suggest using (or to actually use) nylon” for a holster from one of the parties that was over-the-top.

    Someone doesn’t like them, fine.
Someone does like them, that’s also fine.

I wasn’t a part of, nor party to, any of the exchanges about this so far; however, tell me I’m irresponsible to use one or to suggest the using of one then I’ll tell them to shove it up their anal cavity.

  11. Phelps Says:

A nylon holster that someone will buy and carry is a gazzilion times better than a leather one sitting on the shelf.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
