Hey, this was Baltimore. As a former inmate of that city for 10 years, and as the only one of the 6 kids in my family NOT to have fired an Uzi, I can attest with authority that if it was not an Uzi this time, it well could be next time.
However, it is much more likely to be a crappy HiPoint or 20-year-old Glock.
Take group of teenagers, add alcohol (not mentioned but a VERY safe assumption), simmer for several hours on a Saturday night. That only 2 were injured is cause for wonder. I am also surprised that the weapon was still around when the officers arrived.
Obligatory Tasteless Comment: Shot in the face and in “critical condition?” Further proof the 9mm is inferior to the .45acp.
rickn8or: That’s how it’s described in the second article, Tech-9 semiautomatic machine pistol. The journalist must be of the “big words are scarier” school of thought.
The Tec 9 was never manufactured as a machine pistol, BTW.
Mikee, i have several 20 year old glocks that still function as good as the day i got them. Please don’t put them in the same sentence as (shudders) a HiPoint.
At 8PM that night, the Baltimore SUN had it as a “heavy duty weapon”. This morning, it’s a result of “Americas gun culture”. These folks at the Sun are clueless.
When I saw the article Saturday, it was “Machine Gun” with no other details. Sunday it mentioned an UZI… And people wonder why I don’t believe anything the press reports.
wizardpc– I know that; you know that. I was just commenting on these “journalists” missing the opportunity to get the buzzword “ASSAULT OMG It fires more than once a century!” into the weapon description.

Not only was it a Tech-9, it was a Tech-9 semiautomatic machine pistol.

Hmmm – it looks more like a “single-shot Tech-9 semiautomatic machine pistol”. Maybe the “h” in the model means it’s a single-shot.

This just confirms that the last thing so called journalists are interested in is FACTS.

One of the morning NewsDolls in Memphis twice called it an “assault rifle”.
December 7th, 2009 at 5:22 pm
What, no AK-47?
December 7th, 2009 at 8:58 pm
No, if its a pistol its an Uzi. If its a rifle its an AK-47, come on, get with the times, man.

And they missed the “Weapon of Choice for street gangs” too.
Amateurs.
