Moral Politics

Via Kevin, a quiz. Next time someone tells me I’m not conservative enough, I have proof:

System: Conservatism
Ideology: Ultra Capitalism
Party: No match.
Presidents: Ronald Reagan
04′ Election: George W. Bush
08′ Election: Ron Paul

1% are close to you.
1% are more conservative.
1% are more liberal.
77% are more socialist.
20% are more authoritarian.

I’m an authoritarian? Hardly.

  1. Paul B Says:

    88% more socialist
    6% more authoritarian

Got the voting spot on, but I self identify as independent rather than republican.

All though I might be republican if they truely believed in the republic.

    Good quiz.

  2. Sebastian The Blogless Says:

Not an authoritarian? Whatever, Mr. “Keep your booger hook off the bang switch” and “keep your muzzle downrange”. You’re practically bossy :).

    Heh.

  3. SayUncle Says:

good advice is not advocating for law.

  4. mike Says:

clicking on their authority link post-quiz, I think they’ve got a mistake there. The bottom half is less authoritarian, the top more. I was solidly on the bottom, and yet it told me iwas more authoritarian than 81% of the people out there.

  5. Cargosquid Says:

I think that they do have the authoritarian stat inverted. Mine said 10% more authoritarian. Conservative NeoLiberal. My spot was identical to Reagan’s….oh. Never mind. šŸ™‚

    YOUR SCORE

Your scored -0.5 on Moral Order and -7.5 on Moral Rules.

The following categories best match your score (multiple responses are possible):

    1. System: Liberalism
    2. Ideology: Ultra Liberalism
    3. Party: No match.
    4. Presidents: Ronald Reagan
    5. 04′ Election: Michael Badnarik
    6. 08′ Election: Ron Paul

They seem to use “liberalism” to describe what most of us here would call “small l libertarianism”, not what we would call liberalism. From their descriptions:

Liberalism sees individual liberty as the highest values in social and economical life.

    and

Ultra Liberalism is an extreme form of Economic Liberalism.

It is the view (sometimes called Minimal Statism, or Minarchism) that government should be as small as possible.

Of course, I only figured that out because it called me a liberal and I said “Huh?”

Of course, what’s really disturbing is this:

Of the 642,352 respondents (11,568 on Facebook):

    1. 2% are close to you.
    2. 1% are more conservative.
    3. 0% are more liberal.
    4. 58% are more socialist.
    5. 38% are more authoritarian.

Over half are more socialist, and nobody is more “liberal” (their definition) than me? Yikes!

  7. Bubblehead Les Says:

Mine was nearly the same as Jake’s. Thank God Reagan’s name was on my side of the Score.

  8. highboom Says:

Interesting… Since I was a conservative who went liberal, then finalized as a libertarian.

Your scored -3 on Moral Order and -7 on Moral Rules.

    3. Party: Libertarian Party

  10. Magus Says:

    Meh… close enough I guess:

    1. System: Conservatism
    2. Ideology: Ultra Capitalism

    4. Presidents: Ronald Reagan
    5. 04′ Election: Michael Badnarik

    3. 1% are more liberal.
    4. 77% are more socialist.
    5. 80% are more authoritarian.

  11. Sebastian The Blogless Says:

good advice is not advocating for law.

Duh. Apparently a failed effort at levity on my part.

  12. Wolfwood Says:

I’m a little confused. I’m apparently a Capital Republican who is most closely aligned with the Republican Party, yet should have voted for John Kerry or Michael Badnarik in 2004. A person who is anti-abortion, pro-2A, pro-Iraq invasion, and who works as a prosecutor should have voted for either of those two?

  13. John Says:

No one is more liberal or conservative than me… A seeming contradiction to be sure.

    YOUR SCORE

  14. markofafreeman Says:

Something’s screwy, methinks. I match you, Uncle, exactly. šŸ™‚

I just don’t trust the socialist or the authoritarian result. I’d like to see the algorithm used.

  15. Laughingdog Says:

Of the 642,698 respondents (11,572 on Facebook):

    2% are close to you.
    1% are more conservative.
    3% are more liberal.
    85% are more socialist.
    8% are more authoritarian.

I’m having a hard time getting the “conservative/liberal” thing. Based on that 96% of those taking this are exactly like me in that aspect.

  16. Laughingdog Says:

Nevermind, I think I’ve got it now. It’s based on this quadrant thing I think.

    http://www.moral-politics.com/xpolitics.aspx?menu=Political_Systems&action=Draw&choice=PoliticalSystems.All

Looks like very few taking the test fit into the liberal quadrant. The difference being that the socialist quadrant is those on the left that think we’re all interdependent. Liberals are seen, in this at least, as believing in independence. Only 3% fitting in that quadrant makes a lot more sense now.

  17. Canthros Says:

    Woo! Ah’m takin’ a quiz!

    YOUR SCORE

Your scored 3 on Moral Order and -6 on Moral Rules.

    System: Conservatism
    Ideology: Conservative NeoLiberalism

    Presidents: Ronald Reagan
    04′ Election: George W. Bush
    08′ Election: John McCain

Of the 642,752 respondents (11,577 on Facebook):

    4% are close to you.
    1% are more conservative.
    4% are more liberal.
    77% are more socialist.
    7% are more authoritarian.

Well, that’s how I voted in 2004 and 2008, I guess. (Wouldn’t say I was proud of it, exactly.)

Also, must be a lot of wobblies in that data set.

  18. Gerry Says:

    System: Conservatism, Liberalism
Ideology: Conservative NeoLiberalism, Ultra Capitalism, Progressive NeoLiberalism, Ultra Liberalism
    Party: Republican Party
    Presidents: Ronald Reagan
    04′ Election: Michael Badnarik
    08′ Election: Ron Paul

Of the 642,812 respondents (11,577 on Facebook):
    3% are close to you.
    1% are more conservative.
    1% are more liberal.
    60% are more socialist.
    26% are more authoritarian.

I basically answered “Leave me the hell alone” for most of the questions. It uses “liberal” in the classic sense of small government and individual liberties.

  19. comatus Says:

My dad remembers being in Verville, I think it was, when the V-2’s began falling. A guy almost 7 feet tall tried to climb into a school locker room cubbyhole designed to hold a shirt and pair of pants.

This must have been written by the same pollster you noted earlier: it satisfies a ballistics-inspired need to climb into cubbyholes. To vote in Rome, you showed up at your designated tribal gathering place and stood in a “voting pen.” We are very slightly changed.

I gagged on the first question, then read a few more to be sure. They omit quite a few options, just like the Stalinist who cares less about the voting than who counts the votes.

  20. Veeshir Says:

    Okay, that’s funny.

    1. System: Liberalism
    2. Ideology: Capital Democratism
    3. Party: Democratic Party
    4. Presidents: Bill Clinton
    5. 04′ Election: John Kerry
    6. 08′ Election: John McCain

I don’t know what “Capitcal Democratism” is, but the rest is the answer the to question,”What’s the opposite of what Veeshir believes?
I answered “none of the above” a lot.

  21. Ron W Says:

“All though I might be republican if they truely believed in the republic.” –Paul B

Well-said! I too would be a participant in the Republican party IF the party supported the “guarantee of a republican form of government” (Article IV, Section 4, U.S. Constitution) But they don’t want true republicans unless you keep your mouth shut and fall in line to vote for their phony-conservative, globalists like recent presidential candidates, Bush and McCain.

  22. Paul B Says:

Unfortuatly, I voted both of those two on the lessor of two evils. Had Bush junior not had a demorcratic congress, we would be in better shape.

Now as long as the people elected on the next pass realize we sent them to stop this shit, not compromise, but stop it NOW, it is going to get really ugly around here.

  23. HeavenlySword Says:

It called me a libertarian democrat…. and said i voted for ron paul…

    Ultracapitalism? NeoLiberalism? Wtf is that?

  24. Bob DOle Says:

This sounds like it was made by a european. They are using european definitions for words.

  25. Ron W Says:

If we keep voting for “the lesser of two evils”, then we’re going to keep on getting evil candidates…that is, those who are either ignorant of who willfully violate their Constitutional oaths of office–which defines them as criminals and traitors.

  26. Corey Says:

Similar to Jake and Bubblehead Les:

    1. System: Liberalism
    2. Ideology: Progressive NeoLiberalism, Ultra Liberalism
    3. Party: Libertarian Party
    4. Presidents: Ronald Reagan
    5. 04′ Election: Michael Badnarik
    6. 08′ Election: Ron Paul

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
