Gun control is once again gun safety, though it has nothing to do with safety. But it doesn’t matter, you still get told no:
The chairman of the House Judiciary Committee on Friday rejected a request from Democrats to hold hearings related to gun safety in the aftermath of the shootings in Tucson earlier this month.
All 16 Democrats on the committee, which has jurisdiction over firearms laws, sent a letter to Rep. Lamar Smith, the Texas Republican who recently took charge of the panel, asking him to convene hearings on the use of high-capacity magazines and improving background checks to prevent the mentally ill from obtaining guns.

How can conspiracy to violate the US Constitution by infringing the Second Amendment possibly masquerade as “gun safety”?
The phrase “gun safety” has always pertained to the safe handling of firearms. To use it as a euphemism for gun control is a despicable and fraudulent attempt to deceive the public. Those responsible for doing so should face criminal charges for fraud as well as for subversion of the Second Amendment. Why aren’t they looking at fines and prison terms for such grossly wrongful behavior? They should be incarcerated, not in Congress.

I see that the commenters at the link are still bitterly clinging to the flawed assuption that Loughner is a right wing nutjob.

Chas,
Very well-said!!
Loughner committed pre-mediated mass-murder. He should be treated accordingly to a speedy trial and swift, sure justice. And that is ALL that should be done by the governemnt. Beyond that, Congress people, other public officials and most importantly, citizens choosing to arm themselves or have more security, is the most reasonable reaction to his crime.

Question. Are all 16 democrats co-sponsoring HB. 308? I wouldn’t be surprised.
