A measure that would exempt handgun permit holders from criminal background checks to buy weapons is one of two gun bills advancing in the state Senate.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.

We have that law in my state…. it doesnt really do anything b/c you still have to fill out all the paper work, you just dont have to wait there while they call it in.

I have purchased more firearms with my CHL allowing me to bypass the background check than I have without. It’s a smug feeling, for sure;)

I’ve been using a similar system for years. Think about it; you buy from a small rural dealer, fill out the form which goes into a file cabinet, and pay in cash. No trail at all from my end. I started doing this because my local .gov requires reporting of every firearm sold in the city…defacto registration.

The law in Utah says you must pay $7.50 for the instant background check at Point of Sale. With a Concealed Firearm Permit, you are exempt from that law meaning you do not need to get the background check and you don’t need to pay the $7.50. The hidden side of that scenario is that every week or so, Utah’s Bureau of Criminal Identification does a check on every CFP holder in the state and checks for criminal acts they’ve committed. I think that shouldn’t be necessary, but… I guess that’s why we’re pushing for Constitutional Carry.

Shhhhh! Don’t let Hosni Schumer hear about this, or he’ll force a Bill through the Senate closing this “Loophole”!

Speakertweaker; don’t feel too smug. You had to get a license, get fingerprinted and booked in like a criminal, and receive permission from your handlers, to exercise a pre existing right. I did it too, but I’m as much ashamed as anything.

Lyle, that’s all true, but they don’t know whether I exercised my right or not.
