Where I live, the private indoor range, the two private outdoor gun clubs, and the outdoor city /county range all ban carry while on range property. And, with the exception of authorized competition you can not draw a gun (loaded or unloaded) from a holster, so you cant practice your draw.
You don’t understand it because as Michael Bane says you are Gun Culture 2.0. Most gun clubs are established by Gun Culture 1.0, a.k.a. “Fudds” that main purpose of guns weren’t for carry. When you through in that reholstering is one of the most common times for an N.D. most clubs just label as being unsafe without supervision of an RO/SO at a match and ban it for open range time.
One very good reason to CC on a range even were it is banned is that there have been many incidents of criminals stealing/murdering at ranges for guns (Platt and Matix come to mind off the top of my head).
I have talked with dealers and ranges that have such rules and it is not the fear of carry, it is the real life encounters with stupid people in their store.
Why do you have this rule? Because we had too many idiots doing stupid things that for the safety of customers and employees, we had to.
Like what? Well… a guy did one day, or a lady came in and…
What usually followed was a bunch of stories that would scare the crap out of me if I were working there.
On our range you couldn’t comply with the range rules and carry. Cold means no one touches a gun, all guns are open action, on the table. And personally I like it that way, if you don’t trust your fellow member enough to not having to carry while shooting you have no place in the club.

In Dallas the indoor ranges have rules saying if you pack your CCW piece you can’t expose it while shooting.
Oh, and they defiantly won’t allow you to draw or hip shoot or rapid fire or well anything except act like a newbie and slowly shoot.
