Stock up on spare hard drives, then. In a SHTF scenario, I doubt cargo ships will be a-sailin’ ‘cross the Pacific for a while… and HDDs are what usually go bad first on a computer, followed closely by power supplies.
Motherboards, RAM, CPUs and monitors seem to last about 2+ years longer than hard drives.
I’ve found that my Kindle wifi/3G holds not only my books, but .PDF versions of important documents, articles, etc. Nothing beats having firt-aid books, etc readily & quickly available.
The battery lasts for weeks if I keep it offline & I can easily charge it via a solar USB charger & use it to connect to the web via wi-fi or 3G. It’s lighter than netbooks, not as fast, but its portability makes up for that.

I’ve always been a tech geek, but I still like to have dead tree versions of the important stuff.
