Wilson Combat set up for competition comes in at way north of $3K. Or, you know, you could go pick up five used Glock 19s and accessories for them at that price.

It’s still cheaper than scuba diving, doing an iron man, or buying a motorcycle. If you really enjoy a hobby, $3000 for a gun is really not that bad.

For some reason, there are people who will pay through the nose for a customized 1911.
Unless there are some kind of jewels stashed in the grips or it is made of a precious metal, I can’t imagine WHAT you can do to a 1911 to justify that kind of expense. BUT, to each their own of course. Because people are willing to spend that much, they keep others employed. God bless them.

I’ve never heard of a competitive shooter that doesn’t burn through ammo Andy.
Shooting is still fairly cheap, which is why I have a bunch of guns but no off road 4×4.

Some of us have to drive Chevy’s, others get to drive Aston- Martins. If they want to spend the Big Bucks, go for it.
But correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t this about what those who want to do a Gun Sport? And if that’s what they think they need to be Competitive, then let them go for it. Ever price out a Palma Rifle? Or a Grand National Shotgun? Or a Biathlon set up?
Just a different branch of the Gun Community, IMHO. No Biggie to me.

Sorry Tomcat, I shoot 10,000 rounds a year of 9mm. The reloaded priced for that is still under $2000/yr. $2000/yr for ammo is less than I spent on diving each year and less than the cost of race fees and travel associated with running marathons and ultras. All in all, shooting is far less expensive than other hobbies.

The guy with the Nighthawk in class kept having feeding problems and had to replace the slide-stop with one the bullets didn’t bang into on the way up… I bought my Ed Brown used and it ran fine. The Gen-4 Glocks in class had been re-worked to fix The Problem…

Andy: you are high. I am a master diver. A basic SCUBA setup with classes will run about $1400. You can fill your tanks over 500 times for $2000 a year.
Buying a compressor and filling your own tanks is even cheaper. A breathing air compressor can be had for less than a good progressive reloading setup.
Shooting those custom race guns is WAY more expensive than SCUBA.

Some really good shooter needs to take a Hi Point .45, an as-issued M1 carbine and a Mossberg 500 and humiliate all the other entrants at a three-gun or somesuch. Not that I’m against nice things, but some of these people just need a dose.

Simple economics. There are always those who will pay high prices for things, and therefore there will always be those who make high priced things. QED

Or just 2 Glock 19s, new in the box, THOUSANDS OF ROUNDS OF AMMO, holster, belt, spare mags, etc…
And then shoot the heck out of one of the Glocks till you master it.
$3G for one gun, or 3G and become an expert with your gun! Choice is yours.
