Chicago Police Chief: I’ll instruct my officers to shoot innocent people
Maybe.
Supposedly, he says:
“You put more guns on the street expect more shootings,” McCarthy said. “I don’t care if they’re licensed legal firearms, people who are not highly trained… putting guns in their hands is a recipe for disaster. So I’ll train our officers that there is a concealed carry law, but when somebody turns with a firearm in their hand the officer does not have an obligation to wait to get shot to return fire and we’re going to have tragedies as a result of that. I’m telling you right up front.”
McCarthy would not say what specific training officers will undertake if any.
It’s the “blood in the street” argument, only with a police will instigate it twist. Mind you, I can’t find a a source for this bit other than blogs so take it with a grain of salt.

I find this more offensive than Yeager’s threats, the chief of police is a position of authority and he should be held to a higher standard. Also this guy is ordering other people to kill for him, at least Yeager says he’ll do his own dirty work.

Chicago is Rahm Emanuel’s Marxist/warrior/hero/criminal’s paradise and the city has the murder rate to prove it. They do not like law-abiding citizens with guns, and they will do everything that they can to discourage people who can make a difference against crime. Chicago is a very sick city.

“but when somebody turns with a firearm in their hand”
So.. no “DROP THE GUN! GET ON THE GROUND!” that they would give to anyone else.
Good to know.
Betcha they wouldn’t arbitrarily shoot one of those already connected ccws..

This is pretty much standard police training. Linking it to ccw is the offensive part. Cops have no way of knowing whether the guy with the gun has a ccw or not. People with ccws need to have a plan to deal with cops (or other ccws, for that matter)that does not involve turning toward them gun in hand. There have been lots of off duty/plains clothes cops shot this way. It would help if cop training included how to deal with ccws. This is done in a number of jurisdictions but probably too much to hope for in Chicago.

So, if a plain clothes or undercover cop has to draw his weapon and uniforms show up, they are free, even urged, to engage in friendly fire?

“people who are not highly trained…”
You mean, like, cops?

It isn’t just Chicago. See also a Florida sheriff making similar claims, *complete with ‘finger gun gestures* :

What’s interesting is the fact that he’s most likely committing a crime even being there with his sidearm on, given that there is no exception for LEO’s in the law prohibiting carry in the capitol building where this was filmed…unless of course they it is in the performance of their duties.
Unfortunately testifying either for or against proposed legislation is NOT one of their official duties, so he’s either violating state firearms laws (by carrying while not engaged in official duties), or he’s violating state laws prohibiting him from testifying about proposed legislation in his ‘official capacity’.
Laws for thee but not for me, indeed.

ATLien,
Cops are highly trained. They are pretty damn good at shooting dogs.

I think that’s the original.

“Highly trained”? I would be willing to bet that I have more, and better, training than most non-federal cops.
So, if I see someone wearing a uniform or flashing a badge – given the increasing number of fake and or rogue cops – who is reaching for or pointing a gun at me or mine, this means I can take preemptive action, yes?
After all, the same argument will apply: Your Honor, I am not obligated to take a change and wait to get shot before I defend myself or others.

The sad/amusing thing is that this sort of policy does exist (albeit unofficially), and it gets undercover cops shot by uniformed cops all too frequently in big cities.

The CCW guy is the victim of a crime when the cops are not present. It is all over by the time the cops arrive. Be prepared to be handcuffed and taken down, if you are still in the area. Maybe SSS is the proper response ?
January 14th, 2013 at 10:09 am
Same in Ohio. Blood in the streets. Takes a few years for the police to get comfortable with the CCW traffic stop.
I warn my CCW students to drive like old ladies when carrying in a car. Too much trouble to get pulled over. This is ignored until they gun up the first day and see a cop drive past. Then it’s speed limits and full stops.
January 14th, 2013 at 12:57 pm
This is silly. Of course you might get shot if you point your gun at a COP. So, have a plan, expect them to show up if you are in a deadly force situation. Put the gun DOWN. Simple.
I guess this guy expects us just to be there getting shot AT until the cops arrive.

I see dead cops.
LEO = terrorist
Peace Officer = hero
January 14th, 2013 at 5:42 pm
Does that mean Chicago cops are going to stop beating up bartenders for their new pastime of shooting lawful gun carriers? Cool.
But rule 5. Cops around, gun not in your hand.
January 15th, 2013 at 1:26 am
What a total moron…does he think people with concealed carry weapons walk around holding their guns at everyone and will walk up to a cop and threaten him?? It doesn’t happen in other states where people have concealed carry, why would it happen there. It’s the gangs and thugs who would do that.
