Every first-time shooter I’ve taken to the range has smiled like that, while trying to turn around to face me after the first shot, finger on the trigger and muzzle sweeping everyone else on the firing line.
Now I put a hand near their shoulder as they fire the first time, and I keep them from turning around with that smile on their face until the handgun is put down.
She was very good on the muzzle discipline. I had to remind her a couple times to take her finger off the trigger when she was putting the empty gun down but she was well within normal limits in regards to safety for a first time shooter.
