“responsible gun ownership”
Be careful when you leave America:
At 9:15 a.m., Ryan Shucard, press secretary to Rep. Tom Marino (R) of Pennsylvania, was arrested by Capitol Police after they say they discovered a Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun during the routine search required for entry into congressional buildings.
The police told Representative Marino’s office that the incident appeared to have been an accident, said Marino’s chief of staff, Bill Tighe. Mr. Shucard had no intention to use the gun, the police said according to Mr. Tighe, and it was not loaded.
And this:
“I think it is a situation where he lives in Virginia, and he transported the firearm into D.C. accidentally,” he added. “We’re very disappointed that he did not display responsible gun ownership.”
I wonder if he’ll get the David Gregory treatment?

I wonder if he’ll get the David Gregory treatment?
Well, on the one hand, he is a member of the Ruling Class™, but on the other hand, he’s part of the Stupid Party, so it could go either way.

routine searches?
THAT is the biggest problem.

The David Gregory treatment does not include being arrested.

Free David Gregory! Oh. He’s free? But, how can that be?

Former Senator Webb had a staffer who carried a loaded pistol to the capitol in much the same way. Same drill. Nothing happened.
Try it yourself and see how it goes, though.
My wife and I drive around DC rather than through it. It’s not a matter of political partisanship, but a real practical concern that we might accidentally have an empty shell casing (or something) in the car if we get stopped and searched. Searches happen all the time in DC at random times and places, due to federal protection issues. They find anything abhorrent under DC law and you will face a felony.
It’s so bad that we actually have a car designated as a “Gun Free Zone” – meaning we never put anything firearm related into it, nor carry any bags that have ever had guns, into it. Sometimes we cannot avoid the city, so this is our way to handle it.
I have had people tell me we are being silly or paranoid, or that we betray the Constitution by cow-towing to the madness. The simple truth is I got two very young kids and neither or them deserve mommy or daddy locked up over something this dumb.
We work it other ways, and I swear if the whole congress goes red next session one of the first things I am going to do is get into every (R) office and make them attach sane gun laws to every DC appropriations/regulations bill that passes their desk.

I can see (but still have an issue with, despite having done similar things myself) him “accidentally” forgetting he had a gun in teh car and driving into DC.
How did he “accidentally” bring it into the office? Look, if you work in a restrictive environment, you DO NOT use your work bags for range bags. Period.
