A civil rights victory in TN
In TN, it is illegal to own a NFA weapon. But it is an affirmative defense from prosecution if the NFA weapon is registered with the ATF and a tax is paid. So the police an arrest you for owning silencer even if you have a tax stamp. Then you go to court and show your stamp and are good. But you’re out court costs and attorney fees. Well, soon that won’t be the case. It will be legal to own them.

I thought you couldn’t get the NFA stamp without approval from the local gendarme.

A silencer would protect your ears and prevent “noise pollution” from offending the sensibilities of others. Why should that be against the law??? Oh, that’s right, I forgot about the prejudice and bigotry of busybodies and officialdom.

Let me guess, the Affirmative Defense is a result of a court ruling after some poor schmuck got arrested for owning an NFA weapon that was registered with the ATF and tax paid, so the court dismissed, but the court would not overturn the Tennessee law, as that was an action for a co-equal branch of the government.
