Collecting data on the race of gun owners
A bill would prohibit that:
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) could no longer collect racial data for gun transactions under new legislation in the House.
Gun dealers are currently required to report information about the race and ethnicity of people who purchase firearms. The ATF has been collecting this information for several years, though the agency has maintained it never compiled it in any database.

I read that as collecting data on race gun owners. Maybe I read gunnuts too much…..

Sure they will, its not like BATFE or any of the other alphabet agencies have ever lied, right?

When I was selling guns I always assumed that the justification for it was for ID purposes. If there are two Sum Doods and one is a prohibited person this is one possible differentiator.
I also assumed the real reason was the usual random .gov junk.

I’d like to draw your attention to the url for that article. I’ll just post the part that’s relevant:
gun-owners-shielded-from-race-requirements-under-republican-bill
Now just what is that supposed to mean? Am I supposed to be a certain race in order to own guns?

“…the race of gun owners…”
We’re a race now?
That would certainly make it easier to fight all of the astroturfers fighting against our rights….

Hmmm. This would make the background check difficult, if nothing else.
Every felon in the database has his skin color as part of his or her description.
Not sure if this is a good or a bad idea.

“The ATF has been collecting this information for several years, though the agency has maintained it never compiled it in any database.”
When one tells a Fairy Tale, one should start with “once upon a time…”

And war stories should start with “This is no bullshit… I was there.”

“…it never compiled it in any database.”
Bullshit. I would never expect forthrightness from a bureau specifically tasked with infringing, and outright violating, human rights. Besides; the existence of the form 4473s and all the others is in itself a database, no matter how you look at it.
