Not abandoned…they salvaged a lot of ideas. Today, we accept a telescoping stock and optical sights on a service rifle as normal. Back then, it was pretty exotic.

The future isn’t what it used to be. No question that we would be using something like these prototypes if the Cold War had not ended.

The guns are interesting, but I am amazed by the range. The ability to plot where the rounds are going in the air space around the target is very neat.
