In other news, my son’s just-bought Mosin used to fail extraction of fired cartridges. They’d be semi-welded in the chamber, which looked a bit rough.
A few solid hours with bore brushes, several brands of bore cleaner, and gallons of hot water removed what seemed a half-century of fouling in the chamber and stopped the failure mode.
I told him to not use the stuff in the oiler that came with the rifle. It smelled like 50-year old diesel fuel and had more sediment than a fine wine.
