These things (daytime invasion murder in nice neighborhood) are rarely random. Hope my cynicism is wrong here. Either way, the souls of that girl and baby are safe now in the arms of God.
Ugh. I can’t quite put my thought on this into words.
Basically, I’ve never been in a situation where I was like, “darn, I’m sorry I have a gun.” Same for a flashlight, a lighter, a pocket knife, and so on and so forth.
It’s not that I expect to need to cut something, or create light, or defend myself/others. It isn’t paranoia — it’s an acknowledgement of the fact random awful things like this story actually happen.
Wow, I was just down that way within about 10 minutes of 08:30 yesterday. I live up north where the neighborhoods are all nice, but I carry at home because, I mean, where else do home invasions happen? And we have had a few up here over the years.
I’m never more than 3 or 4 feet from a loaded weapon in my house. I always carry outside. Just for this reason. Was hanging with friends last weekend and the subject came up. A co-workers wife asked if I always had a gun and why. Yes. Because I take my right and responsibility to protect me and mine very seriously. I also carry a knife and a flashlight. Not a boy scout, but it just makes sense.

I once went a house party in that neighborhood. I hope the IMPD uses the K9 team first when they find the scumbag.

I am often asked if I carry in the home, and when the follow up question of “why” comes the response is “Because I love my family.”
Seen too many of these kinds of things in “safe” neighborhoods to risk being too far away from my gun to protect them.
