Happy Thanksgiving
To you and yours. And, some good news:
Rounding out the list of pro-gun provisions is section 1087, which restores authorization to the Secretary of Defense to transfer to the Civilian Marksmanship Program surplus M1911 and M1911A1 .45 ACP pistols for sale to the public. The component of the CMP that dispenses the pistols would be required to obtain a federal firearms license and abide by all requirements of the Gun Control Act pertaining to licensed sales and transfers. Currently, the military has some 100,000 such pistols that it no longer needs and that are being stored as taxpayer expense. These historically-significant firearms can now be transferred to law-abiding owners at a net gain to the governments heavily-indebted balance sheet.

And this was signed into law by the President. Nice!

I hope you have a great Holiday!

I don’t see where this forces the Sec. Def. to sell them to civilians. Only authorizes it. Won’t Obama just tell Sec. Def. to not sell them? Well, we’ll see where this goes.

Why would the CMP need the FFL? Even with it they would not be able to sell the guns across state lines. The guns would have to ship to the buyer’s FFL who would do the 4473 and NICS check. I think that the Gov is not happy about this and wants to complicate things Jack.

Happy Turkey Day, Unc! Personally, I see the CMP will charge at least $50 more than a Basic Colt for a Clapped-Out 1911A1 just because it’s marked U.S. Military.
IF I ever go 1911 again, it’ll be a Modern Piece with Improvements like Sights one can see!

one-eyed Jack presently for rifles, CMP has statutory authority to ship directly.

This is when a “mandatory buyback” should be enforced.

When they saw this, my leftie buddies said ‘you still think he wants to take all your guns?’ Yes; yes, I do.

Wow, second good thing this president ever supported.
BTW, anybody who gets one of these pistols and has second thoughts, I still have my gun buyback program!

Am thinking that these pistols will be good for 1, maybe 2 things: frame, and barrel. OK maybe the slide too.
I would buy one for a project if the price were right, like the Sistema Colt that sold for $250 in 1988.

I got to fondle an Ithaca today with an early-ish serial number that’s all matching and probably a good 85-90%. Hasn’t even been fired much. There’s a beauty behind that utilitarian look that’s just inspiring. After a mag through it at the range, that one would find a home in the safe. A couple of shot out ones might make for some good learning material, though.

I doubt if the price will be “right”, though.
With the CMP limited to a max of 10K units a year, demand will be high and the wait list will be like the one for Packer season tickets. The CMP will also have to sort/inspect/grade, which will also slow things down.

Neon: good point. am not really looking for another project anyway, at least not in 1911 territory.

Keep in mind the statute says “may” and not “shall”. Don’t expect this to happen under the current administration.
