Occupy .gov

Bundy’s sons seize a federal building in Oregon. Somewhere, Janet Reno got a woody.

Man that’s disturbing — the Janet Reno bit.

As for this… I’m having a hard time getting a clear picture of what happened to set these guys off. I get the thing about the guys going to jail for arson, but ALL the reporting seems to gloss over the facts of that case.

    Which… is kind of important.

And we all know “she” can. Does this statement get me a fine in NYC?

Near as I can tell, the Hammonds (who, btw, have told the Bundy Militia Guys to take a hike) set some fires on federal lands to clear out brush and prevent a larger fire from hitting their property. So they got arrested for arson, and had a plea deal. One served a year, the other served 4 months.

After getting out of prison, a federal judge basically said “oh, wait! That plea deal that everyone agreed to used the wrong sentencing guidelines. So, you guys need to go back to jail to complete 5 year prison terms.”

So at the root of it, the fedgov basically threw out the fedgov’s side of the plea arrangement way, way after the fact.

There wasn’t a plea deal. The Hammonds were convicted (though there is some question about how fair the trial was) and the judge decided the mandatory minimum would amount to “cruel & unusual punishment” in their circumstance, so he sentenced them to less time. The prosecutors got bitchy, appealed & the 9th circuit sided with them, saying the original sentence was too short & they had to serve the remainder.

That link has a link giving a thorough account of the Hammonds problems with the feds, as well as an interesting, if anecdotal comment about the occupation of the wild life refuge building possibly being the work of fed infiltrators as much a anything.

Obama, being the most politically minded joker to set foot in d.c. evah is going to squeeze every bit of this to his own ends. It’s purely speculative that his administration &/or the fbi/atf/whatev.gov had anything to do with it beforehand, but not a theory I find implausible at the moment.

Word has it that what they have “seized” is basically an unmanned rest area. And I think guns are allowed there, so basically they are just a bunch of people at a rest station…allowing others to go about their business within the area.

Compare this to the Black Lies Matter event on the Magnificent Mile in Chicago, where they blocked exits and verbally assaulted people.

Apparently these folks in Oregon aren’t doing any of that. Though, I haven’t been there–or even stayed at a Holiday Inn Express recently.

Sorta wish both sides would lose.

“Somewhere, Janet Reno got a woody.” I heard it was in Hillary’s mouth….

The park service fascists have had it in for the family for a long time; the area had been ranched since the 1800s, park decided they wanted it, and the Hammonds are among the last that haven’t been driven out yet. Persecution has ensued.

There were two fires, the first was set on Hammond property to protect some grassland and leaked into the park by <150 acres. The second was a backfire the Hammonds set, once again on their own land, which effectively stopped a large fire of lightning origin, coming at them from the park.

The trial was something of a ratfuck, but par for the course when the feds are involved.

The local police I’ve heard on radio actually sounded rather sensible and recognized (at least to the reporters) the protest as a protest, not as an armed standoff. They strongly downplayed the idea that force was necessary, or desirable, to resolve the protest or remove the protesters.

Somebody out there apparetnly understands how well scoped rifles can work.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
