Active shooter scenario
A news station did a little test, using airsoft, of how concealed carriers would fare in an active mass shooter scenario. Unlike other politicized events, and stupid ones but on by some bloggers, they actually had folks with training and the shooter was a trainer himself. Though the effectiveness varied, I think it’s one of the better attempts at this sort of exercise I’ve seen. You can see it here.

Very interesting. And very honestly portrayed. Of course this kind of thing can never be accurately simulated as long as the participants know it is a simulation…but we are expected to accept Global Warming based on flimsier evidence.

Better than some I’ve seen, where the shooter knows exactly who the armed citizen is when bursts in (without any warning at all) and smokes the armed citizen before the citizen can react.
That said, in the conference room scenario, the armed citizen is the only one wearing face protection.
Also, they assumed that hits in the armor were completely ineffective. Not in my experience, and doesn’t jibe with the fact that the great majority of shooters either commit suicide or surrender upon the first sign of armed resistance.

Really well done, and that’s going with a scenario where the shooter knows how to shoot (generally they don’t) and was wearing body armor (again, it’s often reported, but rarely actually happens).
So the deck was reasonably stacked, and it shows that in reality the armed citizen would clean up.

The reason shooters choose Gun Free Kill Zones and other soft targets is because they are cowards. Usually at the first sign of serious resistance they change their plan to self preservation or self termination.
I certainly would love to do this scenario. Even though you know it’s coming the fact that the attacker in the scenario is a trained operator and will not cease his attack when resistance is met puts the field back to nearly level I would think.
Interesting.

They royally screwed up because they failed to conduct a scenario where the only armed person is the bad guy. That scenario is more true to current real life and the reality banners want to see enforced.

Actually not bad, but at the end of part two it descends into the durp of “Body Armor, theat or menace?”
