Quote of the day
Tam:
Your open-carried gun is not an empowerment tool, it’s just a gun. It doesn’t tell everyone you are strong and determined, it just tells them you have a gun. It’s not a deterrent, it’s just a gun. People get to decide if they feel deterred or not.
Guns are not talismans either.

Ok. Fair enough but sometimes I open carry and sometimes I don’t. Sometimes I just don’t tuck in my shirt because I don’t give a hoot at that moment and the gun ends up being sort-of concealed. But mostly I do this NOT because I give 2 fucks what “People get to decide if they feel deterred or not.” or what the fuck they or anybody feel about one thing or another. I’m not responsible for anybody’s feelings, they are. I carry a big fat gun. Their feelings are their own personal problem. Fuck their feelings.

The big thing I noticed when I started OC’ing is that people don’t notice. Kids notice; sometimes teens notice; adults just don’t.

What many people like “Fred” might say is, I choose to carry a firearm for self-protection because it is my right and because it might someday be necessary to use my firearm to protect the life of one or more innocent persons. If I am carrying my firearm “concealed” and unintentionally expose it to someone who is afraid of firearms, that coincidence is a lot less dangerous than if the “afraid” person were to be confronted with an armed criminal holding a gun. The simplest question is, “What is it that stops a bad guy with a gun?”

It may not be an empowerment tool, but it is definitely a tool of normalization, and the LGBT community has adequately demonstrated the power of that particular tactic.

LOL.
Lot of answering unasked questions going on here.

+1 Billy. As a regular open/concealed carrier, I’ve been saying that about people for years.
People are generally so oblivious or engrossed in their smartphones that they’re walking into traffic or lamp posts. They aren’t going to notice a modest sized gun on your hip.
