This could be good news
The Supreme Court has granted cert in the New York State Rifle & Pistol Association Inc. v. City of New York, New York case. At issue is if the city’s travel requirements pertaining to transporting firearms is constitutional:
The case concerns a New York City ban on transporting handguns except directly to and from shooting ranges, and requires the weapon to be unloaded and stored in a locked container.
The law also prohibits transportation of firearms out of the city to a second residence.

I understand why people live there, but seriously, if you want to enjoy freedom, why would you live there?

That law is about as stupid as the Massachusetts law that was overturned in the Caetano case.

New York is a slave State, ruled by tyrants!
“The right of self defense is the first law of nature; in most governments it has been the study of rulers to confine this right within the narrowest possible limits…and [when] the right of the people to keep and bear arms is, under any color or pretext whatsoever, prohibited, liberty, if not already annihilated, is on the brink of destruction.”
–George Tucker, August 20, 1775 – April 10, 1861) was an American attorney, politician, historian, author, and educator.

My immediate sense is that if the SC does not rule solidly against NYC, then we will know that the game is up. and that they Court works for the government, and not for the people.
In short, that it is illegitimate.

We know at least 4 will vote for the plaintiffs because otherwise no cert. We know at least 4 will vote for NYC because guns. Question is what will Roberts do. My guess he will write the opinion ( his prerogative as Chief) and it will be very narrow. I hope I will be pleasantly surprised. That said, there is little downside here. If it is negative or narrow, who really cares about NYC. On the other hand if they do someting about the intersection between the 2A and travel or do something about standards of review to deal with lower court nullification, either of these would be big wins.

Richard, if we can get Strict Scrutiny for gun laws, that would be a big help.
