Dimebag Darrell Abbot 1966 – 2004
Update: News item here.
And Michelle has more.
Update 2: Rolling Stone reports:
The shooter — identified as Nathan Gale, 25, of Marysville, Ohio — dressed in a hooded sweatshirt and hockey jersey, jumped onstage at about 10 p.m., just as Damageplan were beginning their first song. After making a statement about the breakup of Pantera, he shot Abbott in the chest several times at close range and then turned his gun on the crowd of hundreds.
I was upset over the break up but that is insane.
Also, the gunman had a hostage when the officer shot him:
Investigators in Columbus, Ohio, say the gunman, identified as Nathan Gale, had a hostage in a headlock when a police officer shot Gale. Police won’t identify the hostage.
Officer James Niggemeyer was patrolling nearby and was in the club less then a minute before he shot Gale, allowing the hostage to escape. Investigators say the officer’s actions saved other lives.

Damn (with updates and music)
I guess it’s obvious that I’m a Pantera fan, because my inbox was flooded this morning with links to this story. Dimebag Darrell, guitarist for Pantera and Damageplan, was one of at least four people fatally wounded during a bizarre…

I head the gunmen used on entire mag, and then loaded another in.
Question: Is the anti gun lobby going to try to ban regualr capticy mags, because of this.

A commentator on Fox News was trying to get the anchor to stop talking about drugs and Fox’s inference that because his nickname was dimebag he was likely killed in a drug fued. Instead, he said that most evidence is pointing to the fact that this goblin was upset over Panteras breakup.

I know it’s more than a bit sophomoric, but what an unfortunate name that officer has! I’d seriously consider changing it.

tgirsch,
The Niggemeyer name has existed far longer than the reason for your concern. Your point is more than sophomoric. Deal with the real problems in this world and not the imagined ones.

I just can’t believe how this idiot could have thought killing the founding member and lead guitarist of Pantera was going to get the band to reunite

Bob:
I’ll promise to deal with the world’s real problems as soon as you promise to go out and buy yourself a sense of humor.

It,s people like Nathan Gale who make this world a scary place. It is clear that he was insane and someone out there had to know. Shame on him and anyone who new he could do something like this for not telling someone. A good man payed the price and in the future I hope those “people” will have to do the same. Hopefully not in the same way but it is you who have to live with it.

I knew Darrel in High School and, from everything I have heard and read, it sounds like he has not changed much. It is just a crying shame that someone like him has to be taken from us. My heart and prayers go out to all of “Diamond” Darrel’s family and fans. RIP and keep on rocking!!
