Quitters
Kim du Toit has disappeared without so much as a thanks or even a fuck off to his readers. Countertop said he quit but immediately blogged again. Have no fear. As I said in comments at CT’s:
You can check out any time you like but you can never leave.
You’ll be back. They always come back.
Like me, Ravenwood is no quitter and, like me, has time for it.
And Joe chimes in with:
The last few months have had a very sobering effect on me. Think about this:
Q: How many gun bloggers openly use their real names?
A: Not many.Q: What percentage of those have had “problems” of some sort because of that?
A: A lot.Q: How many anti-freedom bloggers do you know of that have “had problems?”
A: None that I know of. But I don’t “travel in those circles.” Anyone that you know of?
I think quite a few use their real names. I use a pseudonym merely because I don’t want this stuff interfering with my work. Also, I don’t want some wackjob reading and deciding to rob me because I have guns.
Oh, and I ain’t quitting either. But blogging may be light as, when this posts, I’ll be in the air headed out for business and returning later in the week.

I expect him to be back under a pseudonym, once his new employer gets his panties unknotted.
The Forum will probably be back up under a new domain with the same moderators.

Which exotic locale will they be sending you to? Hopefully you won’t get stuck in Knoxville like I did 🙂

My reasons for anonymity are similar to yours, except the part about guns. My views on guns are widely known among my co-workers.

Well it would have to be one hell of a brave and or crazy nut job. I would think someone who gets online and says they would never use a gun for protection or that they would not own a politically incorrect dog would be at a greater risk from your average nut job then one makes it clear that are well armed and have a dog with big teeth.
I do, however, understand the not wanting the online persona interfere with your job. I guess I have just been lucky to live and work in an area where my views are not all that extreme and in some cases are just right of the main stream.

Last I read, Kim was interviewing for a job. The blog may have caused a problem with that as it did with his funding for their software, “DidToday”. He lost a financier because of NoR and had to get a job. I can appreciate needing to feed your family and voice your opinions in another way.

I’ve always wondered about that pseudonym thing myself.
It’s certainly true that there are very good reasons why someone might want to use one, and avoiding trouble at work is one of them. But I also have to confess that I just don’t take people seriously if they don’t tell me their real name.

I started blogging under my own name, but switched to the nickname I use on some of the discussion forums I frequent out of expediency. I eventually decided to use my nickname only as it was getting a little confusing, and some of my readers thought there were two of us posting on my blog.
Of course the content on my blog is pretty tame, but if my employer takes issue with it then so be it.
