Tennessean CCW list update
In an update to the Tennessean publishing a database of concealed carry permit holders, I see that Dillard’s advertises on nearly every page. Dillard’s contact info is here. I’ve sent them a note. You could too.
Meanwhile, Blake:
In reality, I can only come to two conclusions: 1) They didn’t think any of this through and are incompetent, or 2) they have it out for law-abiding gun owners. At this point, I’m not sure which it is. But I do know one thing…it wasn’t a smart move.
Can it be both?
Update: Anyone have a list of major advertisers in the print edition?
Lets call the two men responsible for recently passing pro-CCW friendly legislation allowing CCW in State Parks:
Sen Tim Burchett 615 741 1766
Rep Frank Niceley 615 741 4419
Make a suggestion that they pass an emergency bill to restrict public access to CCW records, with exception of criminal acts i.e. if I commit a crime and have a CCW they can publish that. Otherwise, hands off.
While we’re asking, can we get a bill passed that treats your CCW permit like a drivers license endorsement? I’d like to thin my wallet.

Why don’t you do what Insy recommends and publish the names and addresses of the Tennesseean’s editors and reporters?
I know, you have a daytime job, etc., but someone could probably produce the info.

Sorry, I meant to type Insty.

Chris,
Perhaps Uncle’s above that?

Chris,
Bad form. That gives them moral high ground to stand on.

Bad form. That gives them moral high ground to stand on.
Not sure about that. Some will agree but sauce for the goose should be sauce for the gander.
I looked and could not find anything on public information about both the Publisher and Editor of the Tennessean. In fact you will find it very difficult to find out anything of public information about the higher ups at any major newspaper. They tend to be almost invisible. But how they love to make public every one else’s business.
Some of the greatest hypocrites in history are publishers and editors. This case is just another example.

Has the list been taken down? I get a 404 not found.

Well, if your last name is O’brien and people go looking for you should be safe.
Try it.
I’ll explain later tonight WTF that means.

Blake, I do not do things to others that I would not be willing to accept being done to me. My understanding of ethics says that no one should. So, I assume it not to be bad form to apply the form to the perpetrators that they apply to others.
It can be said that it is bad form to shoot someone. I disagree with that if that someone is invading one’s home with intent to cause harm. Though not as immediately dangerous, what the Tennessean did is comparable, ergo it is not bad form for them to share the risks to which they have exposed others.

Wrote my State Rep. First time in over six years I’ve played the “US Army (Retired)” card.

You know, I thought about this too, but as a very frequent traveler, I like to stay under the radar as much as possible as I go through TSA screening at the airport just in the interest of saving time. No sense creating a hassle for myself by advertising the fact on my DL.

I agree with DocB. I’d rather not have my CCW status advertised on my license. Sometimes, when I can’t be armed, I leave the license and anything else that would tell a potential pickpocket or mugger “Guns may be stolen here”. Plus, you guys issue out of state licenses, and TN couldn’t put an endorsement on my PA license.
I can’t recall whether TN is a notify state, but upon being pulled over, I don’t want the officer to automatically know I’m carrying. I know there’s a big debate on that issue among our community, but I’ve always been of the opinion that what the officer doesn’t know, won’t hurt him. I don’t want to risk handling of a loaded weapon around a cop or by the cop unless I end up having to reveal to him I’m carrying for other reasons. Since I don’t plan to shoot a police officer, I have never understood what’s to be gained by telling them.

This is Uncle’s sight, so he can do as he wishes, but I don’t think that posting the names, addresses and phone numbers of editors and reporters who generate this malicious nonsense is bad form.
They need to know that they are not invisible and that their actions have consequences.
The CCW holders certainly didn’t pick a fight, they were just trying to be able to defend themselves.
If outing them is not harmful (as I am confident the journos would acknowledge), then outing them should not be harmful or invasive either.

My DL number and my CCW number are identical. I am reliably informed by state officials that the numbrs will be matched up the next time you renew, if they aren’t already. You’re right, TN is a “notiy” state, but that law is irrelevant, since a DL lookup will clearly identify you as a CCW anyway.

That’s a good point. My CCW is from 10/05 and is the same number as my DL. I hadn’t noticed that.
