Assault Weapons Ban Push Returns
Another bit from the aforementioned WaPo bit on guns in Mexico:
But law enforcement officers on both sides of the border have never seen anything like the flood of guns now surging into Mexico. The increase has been stoked by the cartel war and by the ease of buying high-powered weapons since the U.S. assault weapons ban was not renewed in 2004, William Newell, a special agent in charge of the ATF’s Phoenix office, said in an interview.
So, now the ATF is misrepresenting the ban?

Malice or stupidity?
…
I’d be more inclined to go with stupidity.

With the ATF it’s both, and misrepresentation is their middle name.

BATFEAGs are a lot like politicians. If their lips are moving they are lying. And if it is such a problem, I suggest that Newell get his lazy butt off his chair and do something about it besides kissing the asses of LLLMSM reporters and harrassing American citizens.

“And if it is such a problem, I suggest that Newell get his lazy butt off his chair and do something about it besides kissing the asses of LLLMSM reporters and harrassing American citizens.”
Bit that’s easier for a beaurecrat to do than acually accomplish something.

It is funny how making a rifle semiautomatic with a removable magazine somehow makes it the Excalibur of the range.
Apparently, “bolt action” means nothing to the ATF…

I better be careful or McCarthy will add another firearm to the AWB list. Had a fully automatic experience with my 9×18 Makarov at the range yesterday. Loose grip screw causing the weapon to pivot inside the grip, sending 2 rounds down range with one pull of the trigger! Fun? yes! Safe? not really! There have been reports of that situation or “limp wrist” syndrome causing full-auto fire (it usually happens because of a dirty firing pin channel, but this has caused it too). Hope there were no “undercover anti-gunners” there with me!

Screw anti-gunners, Horse, be glad no off-duty BATFE agents were around or an RSO with a panic attack due to a full-auto on his range. Given the BATFE’s history of misdiagnosing true full-autos from malfunctioning semis, who’s to say you wouldn’t have wound up with a charge of possessing an illegal machine gun?
A slam fire with one of my rifles in the presence of any government official is one of my worst nightmares. Because they will make shit up to convict me to look good, my knowledge of firearms and truth of the situation to the contrary notwithstanding.

The BATFE needs to be disbanded or greatly down-sized and its agents used to augment the Border Patrol. I also would have them well-armed…like the militarized police with helmets, bullet-proof vests and FULL_AUTO “assault” weapons that patrol some of the streets of our major cities.
The President has said, “we can’t militarize the border”, but he doesn’t have any problem doing the same toward us citizens–it should be the opposite!!

Maybe they should just spend more time on the alcohol and the tobacco.

Ron, I agree that the Fuck you Bureau should be disbanded. I do not agree that their personnel should be placed in any position of authority or perform any functions in LE. They have already proven to be untrustworthy, criminal, untruthful, and remarkably unreliable in anything resembling responsibility in a societal sense.
If not jailed, they should be, at the very least, stripped of all civil rights and made to live as the victims of their predations have been.

Looks to me like they are acting in their own bureaucratic self-interest. More gun laws mean more agents to enforce those gun laws, which means a bigger staff and more money to empire building bureaucrats. I wouldn’t ever expect the ATF to come out in favor of fewer gun laws.

I bet their all from Virginia. 😉

Sebastian-PGP,
Oh GOD NO!! They spend too much time on those also.
OTOH, I’m one of those freaks who thinks that the alcohol and tobacco laws should go away.

Ron W:
We can’t militarize the border but we sure as hell can militarize the police?
