I just read all that advice. It describes the ideal.
I wonder how all those people were able to just “point and click” and successfully defend themselves.
That list is enough to put any newbie into decision shock and freeze.
He’s got this exactly backwards, which is a pretty glaring goof:
“Prosecutors will claim you shot the ‘poor innocent’ dirt bag because you had no other options. Being able to testify that you had a knife or a can of pepper spray but that their use was not the proper lifesaving response to the encounter may get you out of a tight legal spot.”
If you had a knife, or pepper spray and DIDN’T use them, prosecutors would be all over you like sharks on chum.
That last sentence simply makes absolutely no sense. It’s not your job to argue that the only defensive option was a lethal one. It raises too much doubt.
Note that one has to be a “verified law enforcement professional and member of PoliceOne to comment,” and the one comment to that list is from someone using a Barney Fife and Andy Taylor photo as icon, saying, “I’ll let my chief know that knives now fall into the ‘less lethal’ category.” which echos Tam’s comment.

I read the article and came to the comments to make a comment that would … well, read pretty much like Cargosquid and Critter wrote …

They could have chosen a worse picture, but it would have taken a lot of work.
