Quote of the day

Paul Helmke of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Ownership:

“We’ve lost the battle on what the Second Amendment means,” campaign president Paul Helmke told ABC News. “Seventy-five percent of the public thinks it’s an individual right. Why are we arguing a theory anymore? We are concerned about what we can do practically.”

Well, looky there, people don’t buy your mythology!

Update: Oh yeah:

Gun Control Group Braces for Court Loss

The nation’s leading gun control group filed a “friend of the court” brief back in January defending the gun ban in Washington, D.C. But with the Supreme Court poised to hand down a potentially landmark decision in the case, the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence fully expects to lose.

Well, I hope so.

Trying . . . really . . . hard . . . not to count my chickens too soon, but maybe the Court will make a common-sense decision and acknowledge that the 2nd Amendment means what it says.

  2. Bruce Says:

Only 75% of the public thinks the Bill of Rights was put in place to protect the rights of the people from governmental interference. That’s sad.

ANd, oh yeah, Helmke can my .

    Let’s try that again.

  5. Ravenwood Says:

Given the Supreme’s decision today that terrorists should be afforded Constitutional protections, I’m not so sure how they will vote on this case.

    To quote Andrew Sullivan:Know Hope

And remember, if asked, 25% would say the sky was yellow and the sun was blue.

So ib that context, saying 75% have a clue is like saying 100% od people with ANY BRAIN FUNCTION agree with us.

  7. Gregg Says:

    Raven,
Actually the SC stated that the currently seated government can not arbitrarily decide who is a terrorist and hold them without Constitutional protections. This should be a positive thing since it is possible that with an Obama presidency he could determine that everyone who owned an EBR was an enemy combatant and thus not allowed Constitutional protections. Please note that if you are vocal in your support of the Constitution you already fall into the definition of a domestic terrorist. It’s not just in the papers leaked from the FBI. It is listed in the educational materials used in criminal justice studies.

One front down I suppose …

  9. Jim W Says:

I’m personally glad that the government actually has to try terrorists before locking them up forever. Gun owners have been referred to as terrrorists before and I have no doubt that a Gore administration would have given us AWB 2 instead of guantanamo. The excesses of the authoritarian right should receive no better treatment by the Court than those of the authoritarian left.

    It’s what they do best.

  11. Ron W Says:

    Jim,

You’re right. So-called “right” and “left” Adiministrations differ only in which rights and for what reason they will try to restrict or deny to us. The left is now denouncing “civil liberties” abuses by the Bush Administration, but a “leftist” (Obama) Administration will trounce them too, especially when it comes to going after our guns. As you say, they’re both “authoritarian”.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
