A list that couldn’t possibly cause trouble among gun nuts

The ten manliest firearms. I own four. Down from five. Because I don’t like AKs.

  1. JD Says:

well, I got 3 and a few more are on my wish list. . . So many guns so little money. . . .

  2. Ahab Says:

I only own two, the 870 and the 1911. Of course, a straight pull swiss carbine would be pretty sexy for TEOTWAWKI.

  3. Mikee Says:

Hah, I also have four of these top 10 covered, and multiples in one of those categories. Yes, Mosins are a fine addition to the list, and can be bought almost on whim.

I wasn’t buying guns when Swedish Mausers were cheap, and regret it regularly. If these 10 manly guns are the equivalent of a berserker Viking’s battle axe, the Swede would be his calmer shipmate’s broadsword: elegant, svelte and still deadly.

  4. Sebastian Says:

Six for me, and I’m thinking I need to get me one of those K31s.

  5. Jay G. Says:

Five. Seven if I can substitute a S&W model 629 for the 29 and a Mossie 590 for the Rem 870…

  6. Matt Says:

Five. Six if I ever get my Remington 870. Seven if I reward myself with a Barrett on the day I raise my hand and take the oath.

    My five:

Enfield No.4 Mk.1 (he specified it would be acceptable being the final offspring of the SMLE)
Mosin-Nagant M44 (I’d argue any of the M-N carbines count).
    Swiss K.31
    AK-47
    AR-15

  7. Steve Says:

That list should be called “nine manliest firearms plus one that should have been the M1 Garand”.
Which one gets kicked off the list to make room? I don’t know but one of them has to go.

  8. John Says:

Do you get extra credit for multiples? 🙂

If not, only 4, traded the SMLE and my 1911 a while back.

  9. Chris Byrne Says:

Y’all know this is Mad Mikes list from five years ago right?

  10. Denise Says:

I really liked the list and started a comment that turned into a blog post. Yosemite Sam and I own eight of the guns and own several multiples. Steve’s comment is spot-on about the M1 Garand and I included it in the blog post before reading his comment.

  11. SayUncle Says:

If i haven’t seen it, it’s new to me.

  12. Huck Says:

I only have 2 of the guns listed, a Lee Enfield MKIV and a Bushmaster Carbine.(AR-15)

I agree that the M1 Garand should be on that list.

  13. JJR Says:

I’ve got 5 on that list (6 if my 870 Youth Express 20 ga counts). Also assuming my WASR-10 “counts” as an AK or not.

I also agree about the M-1 Garand being conspicuous by its absence from this list. I’m reasonably satisfied with my collection, but I’m still wanting to add an M-1 Garand to it someday soon.

  14. Kristopher Says:

That photo of the girl with the pink AR is one of Oleg Volk’s …

    Not public domain.

  15. drstrangegun Says:

I have six… no glock (and likely never will), no model 29, no 870, no M82.

Couldn’t tell you if I’ll ever buy a 29, remember I like odd things, those are kind of common. The 870, transcends oddness in that it’s a straight-up utilitarian workhorse… but I *really* like the Turkish produced Chucky D guns we’ve been getting. 82’s too expensive.

I may eventually end up with a “glock” but it’ll have a metal frame, aftermarket slide and barrel, and non-glock bits wherever I can find them.

  16. Kristopher Says:

Retraction time … the photo is the site owner’s own daughter. Oleg WAS the photog, but he does’nt have sole rights.

  17. John Says:

Garand should definately be on the list.

Best infantry weapon made – Patton.

Also Clint Eastwood has one in Gran Torino…

  18. Mikee Says:

The link above goes to the Viking’s first list of 10 manly firearms. He has recently posted a second, here: http://arthurshall.com/x_2008_manly_guns_2.shtml which should also warm the cockles of the heart.

  19. Ron W Says:

I would agree that the M-1 Garand belongs on the list. I have three, Mosin Nagant M-44, two AK’s both Russian (one being a .308 AK if that counts). Maybe 4 if you count a Mossberg 500 as being similar to the Remington 870.

  20. Linoge Says:

I weigh in with a grand total of 1.5ish. Go me!

  21. DirtCrashr Says:

    I have three, the K-31, the 1911A1 and two AR’s – but absent the Garand, I dunno…

  22. Jay Hafemeister Says:

I have 4. 5 if you count my Mossberg 590 W/Bayonet as an adequate substitute for the 870.

All total I have 11 that fit into the list.

I just can’t believe my M-14/M1A didn’t make the list. Or the M1 Carbine

  23. drstrangegun Says:

“Best infantry weapon made – Patton.”

Heh, the line stands by itself…. “man as weapon” and all that.

I think personally the list is a bit short, not having any leverguns on it…

  24. Gun Blobber Says:

    6: SMLE, K31, M44, 870, AR-15, AK-47. Plus the K98, FAL, and M1 Garand from the 2nd list.

  25. Justthisguy Says:

I am sadly deficient, not owning any of them, just a .45 Colt revolver and a Marlin .22 rifle, but at least Sgt. Williamson has personally exempted me from being fed through the wood chipper with the other FL voters when he becomes Dictator.

I was worried, being a Florida Voter, so I appealed to him personally, citing my experience in the tree-trimming business. He graciously exempted me. Robb Allen had better look out, as I have not heard of any special exemption for him.

FL LEOs, especially Collier County ones, will of course be first through the chipper when Mike is Dictator. Good Lord, please get me out of Collier County!

  26. JB Says:

Four (with duplicates of some) – love the M82 best…

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
