The American Stereotype
Image of a man walking the street with a gun and some other object, presumed to be liquor in South Dakota. PSH ensues in England. I can’t tell if it’s a liquor bottle or not but it doesn’t look like one. A quick map search reveals a nearby gun shop.
South Dakota ranks 46th in violent crime in the US and a violent crime rate of 172/100,000. In Britain, the violent crime rate is 2,300 and 3,993 per 100,000. And that’s with them cooking the books.
Now, compare that stereotype to one of bad teeth, horrible food, and subjects living in a nanny state where they can’t defend their own lives, I’ll take the guy with the rifle walking down the street any day.
HT to mad rocket scientist.

Plus, it looks like an air rifle.

This is supposed to be a bad thing?

Looks like either a handgun case or a Bible to me! Heh.

I don’t see much of a problem regarding the content of the photograph. Minus the H-D shirt, I’ve been observed in the same circumstances striding across the downtown square of a medium-sized Texas city, between the courthouse and a national bank, and in front of a television station, while on my way to a gun shop. In a dry county, mind you.
I guess that reaction is part of what spurred my great (x9) grandfather’s immigration off that island (albeit the Western Marches)lo those many years ago.

Looks like a thermos to me.

July 4, 1776.
It’s an argument I’ve been making for about thirty years. Our electronic ignitions, cell phones, and pre-prepared sushi do not make us a whit smarter than our ancestors.

Heck, did they miss the one of the man pointing a pistol at a child on a street in Detroit?

I did a close up on the pic and it dont look like a booze bottle to me either.
I think the blokes with their America bashing is just sour grapes. They think so superior to others and cant stand to see others that truly are better off than they are. Though why they think they’re so awesome I cant understand since they’re a second rate, has been nation, like the French.

Just FYI, The Register is a humorous news site. Mostly real news (not like The Onion) but never told with a straight face. They are big on tech news. This is not the only example of funny/odd stuff in Google Street View that they have reported:
Google kills a deer:

Google captures a woman pissing in the street:

Too bad they don’t have easy comments there.
I’d like to ask if they would care to compare the crime statistics of the Dakotas to England?

It seemeth to me that the Brits, not content with the 24/7 surveillance of their own country (which, since being ruled by their nannies, has become boring and predictable), now need the titillating, vicarious excitement of spying on Americans.
Feh. Spy away, chaps—for now, at least, we’re still a moderately free nation. May you your voyeurism cause you to remember what it felt like to be liberated and unafraid.

But if England is threatened from outside of England we will save their ass again. I doubt we will save France when they are toppled from within. In twenty years France is done. It is always interesting to watch multiculturalism collide with Islam. Not exactly a fair contest.
