There ought to be a law

Seen at MKS:

A bill filed today would specify that blogs can be libelous. Sen. Steve Goss said he wrote the bill over concern that “fast-moving Internet technology” may be outstripping existing libel laws. He wants the law to specifically say that blogs and other online media can be considered libelous.

I would imagine that libelous statements, such as Sen. Steve Goss has a thing for Asian transsexual hookers, are probably actionable no matter the medium in which they are presented. And that non-libelous statements, such as Sen. Steve Goss is an authoritarian douchebag, are protected regardless of the medium in which they are presented. You know, free speech and all. But then, I’m not a lawyer.

In the next four years America will be at the place Britain is now. State health care. No guns. No God. No rules except pay your taxes and don’t speak ill of the government.

Screwed. Really screwed. We went full retard.

There will be guns in this country for the rest of my life.

“There will be guns in this country for the rest of my life.”

True, but that’s not the question. We’ll have our guns one way or the other. The question is, “Will we have freedom?” With regard to guns, it’s not a question of “if”; it’s a question of “how”. Personally, I’d prefer to skip all the drama and bloodshed, but if that’s they way they mean to have it, then that’s the way that it will be. We’ve had bloody wars of disagreement before in America; we’ll have them again.

Doesn’t the law have an exception for “opinion?”

Number9, no, we didn’t go full retard. We just have more folks addicted to government swallowing the gravy.

  6. Joe Huffman Says:

Freedom? We don’t have that now. You can be arrested for having too much cash on hand. You can’t legally buy a toilet that uses three gallons per flush. You can’t legally buy a new fully automatic firearm. In many states you can’t ride in a car without your seat belt fastened.

The only questions are how much your freedom will be restricted this year and the year after. Freedom almost never increases as long as a government remains intact. It must fall before some hope of increased freedom exists.

If they come for your firearms that implies a much bigger problem. Some people claim there is a lesson to be learned from the 20th century (bottom of the page) with regard to that scenario.

O would assume that the first statement would already be slanderous, but not libelous. I’m not really sure what the difference is, other than the method by which the statement is made, according to the law. I don’t know if you can sue someone for slander.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
