Judge Earns Keep
Good news: A federal appeals court threw out an estimated 100 death sentences in Arizona and two other states Tuesday because the inmates were sent to death row by judges instead of juries.

Yes, from what I heard the underlying case was incredible: lawyer sleeping, judge disbarred for being on drugs, etc. I haven’t seen an in depth summary on the web, however. If anyone has a link to one, let me know.

The interesting thing about this, though is that the people pursuing a policy of juries deciding death-penalty sentences believed that it would result in a reduction of such sentences. It doesn’t.
