Score one for the good guys
Concealed carry allowed in Missouri:
Lawmakers today granted most Missourians the right to carry concealed guns, overriding a veto by Gov. Bob Holden (D) and reversing the outcome of a statewide election on the issue four years ago.

Haven’t the lawmakers essentially co-opted the will of the people in this case? I understand the underlying constitutional issues and why you might side with the lawmakers on this one, but let’s make a hypothetical case for debate:
Suppose a referendum comes to the ballot, regarding a right or law not specifically addressed by the constitution. The people vote against the referendum, making their will known. A couple of years later, lawmakers override the results of this referendum. Is this a good thing or a bad thing?

Good or bad, depends on the issue. The majority has been wrong before. Being the paragon of moral certainty that I am, i’d need more info 🙂

True enough. However, when that happens, it’s supposed to be the job of the judiciary to right the wrong, not the legislature.
