May Be A Good Thing
Though it seems sad on the surface that it takes an action movie star to get a high voter turnout in the California recall, there could be one good result. I assume that Arnold has a fan base (movie fans, bodybuilding fans) that voted for him. The effect could be that people who have never really paid attention to politics or voted may now start paying attention and voting because one of their idols is now involved.
Anything that gets more people involved in America’s abysmal political scene can’t be all that bad.

Good point, but electing clowns seems an awfully high price to pay…

Well, we’ve been electing clowns for a while now.

I’m not a big Bill Mahr fan, but I think he called it right months ago. If Californians didn’t want Davis in office, why did they elect him last year?
No, scratch that. They didn’t elect him. They re-elected him. So it wasn’t like he was an unknown quantity.

Arnold might not do better than Davis, but he couldn’t do worse. I think it was a mistake for him to run (and now win) because things are such a mess that he’s not going to be able to do all that much to correct the problems. A good start is about the best he can hope for. I can’t see him being reelected.
