Favorite Movies
Alex Knapp posts his 20 favorite movies. These are mine. There are probably more but these were the first 20 to pop into my mind (in no order):
1. Unbreakable – Brilliant concept and its minimization of violence was awesome.
2. Unforgiven – Deserve’s got nothing to do with it.
3. Pulp Fiction – I shot Marvin in the face.
4. The Usual Suspects – Kaiser Soze is one scary sumbitch.
5. Raising Arizona – Son, you got a panty on your head.
6. Braveheart – The lord tells me he can get me out of this mess but he’s pretty sure you’re fucked.
7. Big Trouble in Little China – Now this really pisses me off to no end. And I am the only person who thinks this movie is great.
8. The Princess Bride – You seem a decent fellow, I hate to kill you.
9. Memento – Eventually, the huh? goes away.
10. Heathers – I love my dead, gay son.
11. Lethal Weapon – Ushered in the new genre of action movies.
12. Taxi Driver – You talkin’ to me?
13. Forest Gump – merely because you can tune in at any time when it’s on cable and it’ll be entertaining.
14. Full Metal Jacket – Two movies in one.
15. Goodfellas – Gangsta, gangsta at the top of the list.
16. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead – Good witty stuff
17. Rob Roy – No matter how cool it looked, never grab a sword.
18. A Fish Called Wanda – It’s K-K-K-K-Ken coming to K-K-K-K-K-Kill me.
19. Fargo – Just funny looking in general
20. The Ref – Hysterical.

It’s all in the reflexes!
Egg Chen: “It will come out no more!”
Jack Burton: “What? What will come out no more.”
Wang: “The Chinese have a lot of hells, Jack!”
No, unc, you’re not the only one. I’ve got BTiLC on DVD.

Wow! It’s on DVD? John Carpenter is awesome.

Amazing how many of those would be on my top twenty. I would add Dr. Strangelove and 2001. And Apocalypse Now. And probably some others. Damn, there’s a lot of violence on that list…

Egad, you’re right. I’m really not a violent person.

I like BTiLC too! Though it’s more of a funny movie in idea than in execution. It’s like “Buckaroo Bonzai” in that. Not *quite* as funny as you know it could be.
And where’s “Monty Python and The Holy Grail?” =8-0

As Jack Burton always says… Big Trouble in Little China kicks a$$!!!!
Not sure it’s top 20 for me, but I love it.
Here’s the ones you repeat of mine:
Unbreakable, Usual Suspects, Braveheart, Memento, and Forest Gump
Others for me:
Star Wars Original Trilogy, Field of Dreams, The Natural, Broadcast News, and more… it’s hard to pick just 20!

BTiLC is a great movie (although I only have it on videotape).
Shrek is on my top 20 list, as is Fiddler on the Roof (yeah, it’s a musical. So what?).
Noises Off is a little known comedy with lots of big stars (like the late John Ritter, Carol Burnett, Michael Caine, and Marilu Henner). Great date movie.
Demolition Man, Fifth Element, the second Terminator, and Them for nostalgia’s sake. The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. Armageddon. Saving Private Ryan perhaps. My Cousin Vinny. Dirty Harry. Magnificent Seven. Duck Soup or Horsefeathers? How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Moulin Rouge. The Villain.
For real comic relief, would you consider Army of Darkness? A true classic…
20 is just too limiting.

Airplane! would have to be on my list, as would Monty Python and the Holy Grail. And since somebody brought up musicals, which I normally hate, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast remains one of my favorite films. For serious films, I remain surprised at how well I liked the 1991-ish Daniel Day-Lewis version of Last of the Mohicans. And who can forget Vertigo?
Big Trouble is a great flick, you’re far from alone there.
I would lose Princess Bride from that list. I hated that movie, but I realize I’m in a miniscule minority there. I just found Cary Elweys’ Wesley to be absolutely unlikable. I couldn’t bring myself to root for him. Had Inigo Montoya defeated him in the swordfight (which admittedly was one of the best every filmed), it may have been a fantastic movie. >:)
Speaking of swordplay, The Mask of Zorro was quite enjoyable, too. Not sure if it would make my top 20, though.
But the biggest glaring omission I see on your list: Where the hell is Young Frankenstein? That may very well be the best comedy ever filmed.

What the hell, I’ve put up my list, too. Dissect away!
