If he is fibbing then it just adds fuel to the “bush lies” meme, if he is unaware then it adds fuel to the “he is dumb” meme. and it also means that he acknowledges the Mission is not accomplished so what was the reason behind the flight suit stunt?
What Bush said yesterday about the crew hanging the sign was technically true. But the impression that statement has on the average American viewer–the type that doesn’t even know who his senators are–is false. It makes it seem as if the White House had no involvement, when in fact it did.
We’ve seen this kind of thing quite often recently. Other examples:
“The British have learned” Saddam tried to get yellowcake. Makes it sound as if the President knows Iraq was in Niger attempting to obtain yellowcake when in fact he didn’t.
Iraq . . . 9/11. Even though Bush hasn’t said Iraq was the cause of 9/11, you’d sure think so given how he rhetorically links them all the time.
Is this “fibbing”? I guess it depends how you define that. But it’s sure misleading.
Fibbing has been a prerequisite for a successful president (or unsuccessful, for that matter) since George Washington. Suddenly, it’s not presidential? I feel a google coming on.

Either way it’s piss poor politicking.
