Oddly enough, I’ve heard some conservatives speculate along the same lines. I don’t buy it. The political gain from a live capture is huge and immediate, even if only temporary. There’s no good reason that I can think of to hold back. There might be intelligence-related reasons to delay bringing him in, but not politically motivated ones.

It’s an election year. Like the Commissar said on someone’s comments board: what time would not have seemed politically motivated to the Democrats?
