Aw, come on , Unc. This is not a “cat thing.” Any housed animal would have eaten whatever was available – even a bird – after being without food for a week. Even PEOPLE have been known to resort to desperate measures. (Donner, Airplane, etc.)
Reminds me of a story my Uncle Frank, a merchant mariner in WWII, told me about some guys who spent way too long in a lifeboat before being found. It seems one of the guys was , uh ,eaten.
Horrified self to Uncle Frank, ” Was he dead, then?” Uncle Frank to me, “Well, he was dead when they ate him.”
Moral: Do not be the least popular guy in the lifeboat.

Reminds me of the old joke about bears: remember that if a bear attacks you in the woods, you don’t have to be able outrun the bear to get away–you just have to be able to outrun the slowest person in your group.
Thanks for your validation, Brian. Having both cats and dogs as house pets, I think I am objective. Each have their unique ‘pros & cons’ – but of course, dogs require much more care. I will be away for Xmas and must take my dogs with me. The 3 cats will stay home with plenty of food, water, and radio (gotta hear something while I’m gone!) and a friend to look in on them every couple of days. We always do this when I go away and they are just fine. Use your imagination to think what I would return to if I took the cats and left the dogs home!!!
Oh No, Mr. Bill!!!!

Indigo is right. And I will stand with the ranks of a cat blog alliance should one arise to counter the dog blog alliance.

The cat would probably bite off smaller chunks from you, if that’s any consolation.
