Hope or math ignorance. Now the state will have an incentive not to teach statistics to students. Look for those math scores to get even worse.
I’ve always thought of state lotteries as a tax on stupid. ;>

SayUncle had it right. Tax on hope. Poor tax.
Call it what you will, but it’s a regressive tax that preys on the lower class, while benefitting the middle and upper classes. Bummer.
First of all, it’s voluntary; it doesn’t “prey” on anyone. Second, if it makes a few people realize that advancement come through work and not sitting around hoping success will suddenly fall into your lap, then I’m all for it.
Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
