Iraq war means he’s racist

WATE:

The Rev. Tim McDonald of Concerned Black Clergy said, “For him to have entered the war in the manner in which he did and now to come to lay a wreath for Doctor King is the epitome of hypocrisy.”

Concerned Black Clergy is planning a protest with other local groups during Bush’s visit Thursday afternoon.

McDonald said the president’s appearance shows “that he wants black votes, that he wants to give the appearance that he’s not a racist, that he’s not a war hawk, but we can see through that veil.”

He’s calling the president a racist? Powell and Rice may disagree. And exactly how do we get from entering war to being a racist?

First, I agree that Bush is not a racist the way most of us understand the word.

But I don’t think the Rev.’s statement implies “Iraq war means he’s racist”. McCall was saying Bush was two things, a Iraq war supporter obviously and a racist as well.

Elsewhere in the article, Bush’s opposition to affirmative action is held against him. I agree with you (I assume) that is not by itself evidence of racism, but it is arguably evidence of a more laissez faire attitude about the barriers black people face.

Was Clinton a racist for bombing a factory in Sudan or launching a Tomahawk or two at a few terror camps?…what about Bosnia…?

  3. Brian A. Says:

I take their complaint to be that the only reason Bush is visiting is for racial politics. As they see it, Bush recently demonstrated that he isn’t really interested in honoring the memory of King because the Iraq war violated King’s legacy of non-violence.

It’s much simpler than that. Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, and the rest of the race pimps all agree that they are such wonderful luminaries that anyone who disagrees with them MUST be a racist. They also agree that the war was wrong. Ergo, anyone who supported the war must be a racist.

As an aside, anyone who thinks Bush opposes affirmative action must be living under a rock.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
