Dumb Ass Quote Of The Day
“Everybody always makes the mistake of looking South,” Kerry said, in response to a question about winning the region. “Al Gore proved he could have been president of the United States without winning one Southern state, including his own.”
Hey Kerry, Gore is not currently the president. In fact, I think Gore proved exactly the opposite. If Kerry wins the nomination and pursues this strategy, he is done.
And Guy Montag alerts us that Kerry may have been a member of The Village People.

I’m not sure that statement is as stupid as everyone makes it out to be. Technically, of course, Gore didn’t prove anything except that it was possible to come painfully close to becoming president of the United States “without winning one Southern state, including his own.” But it’s not that much of a stretch to say that this photo-finish indicates that Gore could have won outright if he had written off the south completely and campaigned a little more aggressively in a couple other red, but light-red, states. I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if Kerry’s advisors told him that a similar strategy was his only hope of winning, as Kerry has even fewer inroads to the south than Gore did four years ago.

I agree with Xrlg on this one. I’d go even further, and say that I don’t think a Democrat can win in the South under the current environment, so I’d tend to agree that it would be a waste of time and money to campaign too heavily in the South.
