It’s the issues, stupid
On NPR yesterday they were reading reader email. Most of the emails stated that they didn’t like NPR’s coverage of the Democratic Primaries because it was akin to covering a horse race. So-and-so is in the lead, such-and-such is gaining, blah-blah-blah. I agreed with the sentiment. They weren’t covering the issues.
So, this morning they’re covering the Primaries. The only issue that came up: Who can beat Bush? These are not the issues you’re looking for. Way to be responsive, guys.

Horse race indeed.. There’s a great book called “The Politics of Mass Media” by Calvin Exoo that goes into this sort of thing, and much more.. I’d heartily recommend it, although it’s a dense read. I wrote a brief review of it a while back, here.

Not surprisingly, I’ve gotten ticked with the tone of the media. A guy wins a primary in a small neighboring state, and suddenly the race is his to lose.
By the way, where are the tax fun facts? I’m not having fun anymore.

Geez, forget one tax fact for the day and it’s bitch, bitch, bitch.

Actually, it’s two days. And because your motto has vanished, I have determined that the official Say Uncle mission is now to entertain ME, not YOU. Ha!

You know if NPR is all horse race, the TV media is going to be wrapped up in the polish on the saddle.
