The bill that is to outlaw frivolous lawsuits against gun manufacturer’s has had a rider attached to it by Sen. Diane Feinsten. The rider gets rid of the sunset provision of the Assault Weapons Ban.

Frankly, in terms of a way to kill the bill, it’s a brilliant strategy. I pretty much oppose any effort to create special protections like this, so in this case, go Diane!

I would tend to agree with you if it weren’t for the fact that these lawsuits tend to be frivolous and are entirely designed to cost manufacturer’s money.
Of course, if the gun industry began counter suing that may aid in thier efforts.

Making all lawsuits illegal, or capping their damages, is not an effective solution to frivolous lawsuits. It hurts the people with legitimate complaints, and does little to deter the frivolous lawsuits.
A loser-pays system might work better, although there are problems with this approach as well. The best answer is to demand more from our judiciary (and, frankly, our jurors).

You know as well as i do that judges and attorneys go out of their way to get the dumbest or most likely to succumb to their ideas on juries. Heck, our system doesn’t give all the facts or sentencing statutes to jurists.

All legitimate problems, certainly. But hamstringing the ability to sue is NOT the answer.

This is what I expected all along – on this specific bill.
The saddest thing is that the NRA is likely to support this bill, rider and all.
