Huh?
A sign our legislators apparently don’t have enough real work to do:
A proposal that would prohibit your dog from roaming free while riding in the back of the family pickup truck drew fire in the legislature yesterday.
The dog bill was offered by Rep. Bill Dunn, R-Knoxville, who said that if dogs ride in a truck bed, they should be harnessed or caged.
Are dogs getting thrown from trucks a real problem?

Frankly, call me a nannyist if you want, but I’d support such a proposal. I’ve seen people tooling down the highway at 70 with a loose dog in the bed, and I don’t see why it would be such a bad thing to ticket them. Even needing to brake sharply would put the dog at serious risk.

Yeah, I feel for the dog’s safety and all, but I’m more worried about getting bit when that person stops at the same gas station as me and goes inside to buy cigarettes while I’m trying to pump gas next to Cujo. In most places, its the law that dogs in public must be leashed (Yes, even if Killer is the “sweetest dog in the world” you crazy nut). Isn’t this already settled?

Tom,
you’re a nannyist.
Amy,
Most municpalitles require dogs be leashed. But not all. I live in maryville. In the city, leashes are required. In the county, they’re not.
