9/11 Political Ads

Bush has some ads featuring the images of 9/11. This has upset some folks. I watched the ads. I didn’t find them offensive. However some folks did:

“It’s a slap in the face of the murders of 3,000 people,” said Monica Gabrielle, whose husband died in the twin tower attacks. “It is unconscionable.”

Actually, Monica, I find it to be a slap in the face to the American people that you are suing everybody over 9/11.

Actually, it’s a slap in the face to think this is a slap in the face.

What also bugs me about this was Neil Boortz or someone (maybe it was Rush) talking about this today, automatically calling these relatives liberals, and Democrats and Leftists and radicals and assuming that if you’re against something that has to do with Bush, you’re automatically one of the above. I haven’t seen any evidence any of the relatives are particularly non-Bush supporters, much less Liberals.

Yet another instance of Conservatives automatically equating anti-Bush with Left-wing “traitors”.

  2. SayUncle Says:

Which slap in the face are you referring to? We may be agreeing or not. I am confused and need a slap in the face.

What’s wrong with vicitms seeking “compensation and accountability”? In many instances, this may be the only avenue for the public to find out what really went wrong? Why should vicitms settle for whatever the government is willing to dish out?

  4. Thibodeaux Says:

I was listening to Evil Right Wing Talk Radio on the way home from work. This was the topic of discussion. One caller asked, “If John Kerry can use VietNam in his ads, why can’t Bush use 9/11 in his?”

  5. Les Jones Says:

I haven’t seen the ads, but I don’t understand what the hullabaloo is about. Why shouldn’t Bush show the towers in his ads. It was a crisis he faced in his administration, and it’s a reminder of why we’re fighting global terrorism.

    You beat me to it.

yet another “left wing”…”democrat” blah blah blah…blowing Boortz and Limbaugh out of proportion. Do you mind sending me some transcripts of Boortz telling everyone that all democrats that complained about the 9/11 images are traitors? Maybe you should look into the mirror before throwing out your vague blanket statements Barry.

  8. justin Says:

Hell, you dont even know who said what Barry…

What also bugs me about this was Neil Boortz or someone (maybe it was Rush)…

    ok..I’m done commenting now.

    Brian,

Nothing. Fine. Sue al qaeda. Not the new york port authority and the guys who make skyscrapers. I might for a minute buy the airlines but no i don’t because back when i was flying every week for work i took gerber tools, pocket knives and tons of stuff on the flights.

  10. Last Home Barry Says:

Ok, Justin, listen real carefully. I’ll type slowly so you can understand.

First, when I left for lunch Boortz was on. When I left lunch to come home, Rush was on. I don’t recall specifically which one said what but both make a living out of trashing liberals, so it’s not that important. If you must know for sure which one I’ll search for a transcript.

Second, he mentioned the story about some of the victims’ families getting upset with the 9/11 depiction in the ads. He then went on to complain about how the Liberals and “The Left” are against Bush, and will automatically use anything controversial like the 9/11 ads to attack him. He didn’t say “the families were like Liberals” or “just like the Liberals always do, the families did this” – not pointing out a similarity in style, but automatically assuming if you attack Bush, you’re a Liberal/Leftist/Democrat/Agent of Evil.

I’ve had my problems with the Left this year, as most of you know, but that was stereotyping and generalization of the worst kind.

  11. Last Home Barry Says:

SU: Sorry, I wasn’t clear about the slap in the face thing. I meant it was a little insulting to me as an American that the relatives think that 9/11 was only their tragedy. Obviously they’re all going through a very painful struggle, but 9/11 wasn’t a car wreck, a forest fire, a hurricane or a regular plane crash. It was a world-changing event that has changed the lives of every American. Forever. We all grieved for the victims, we grieved for our way of life, we grieved for our sense of security and we grieved for the deaths yet to come. To tell me that the relevance of 9/11 was only theirs to own, and not all Americans is practically a slap in the face.

  12. HH Says:

Kerry’s entire campaign is Vietnam… hypocrisy rears its ugly head so early in the campaign.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
