More .50 Caliber Lies
Another proposed .50 ban full of the usual lies and misinformation. Can anyone actually identify a crime that has been committed with one of these rifles?

I guess if they ban them, and you own one, you’ve committed a “gun crime.”

Local gun laws in CA are even dumber than the ones in IL or NY. Local ordinances restricting individual possession of firearms are preempted, so all they can outlaw is the sale itself. Care to place any bets as to how many people there are residing in Contra Costa County who (1) want a .50 BMG rifle badly enough to shell out several thousand dollars to purchase one, but (2) don’t want a .50 BMG rifle badly enough to drive all the way to a neighboring county to pick it up?

The only one I’ve ever seen documented is from the Waco debacle. Apparently one of the Branch Davidians was videotaped carrying a .50 and was supposedly seen aiming it in the general direction of some FIBbies. Apparently, that’s illegal and he plead guilty to it. I don’t have a link – it was a long time ago.
I have also read (secondhand) that a .50 was used in an armored-car robbery (here in the US), but I’ve never found a primary source for it.
There was a .50 present at a shooting in which a Colorado Sheriff’s deputy was killed, but the shooter used an SKS. The .50 was in the shooters car, but never fired.

I looked it up online because I remember a photo of an armoured car with a hole in it. The best link I can find is this one.

Click CTL-F and type in Chamblee. That will take you right to the part you seek.
It does not have the photo I was looking for but this mentions Davidians, Chamblee, and a nut case. Other then that it is all “the criminals were found to have a 50bmg in there house” tyoe of association.
But the 50 ban is still BS. Collective punishment seems to be the style today.

I will try to learn to type better one day. Honest!

Arg! Not only is this my county, but that Gayle Uilekma is MY county supervisor. Lame lame lame.
Uncle – I’ll blog this one, since I do get some Contra Costa specific hits, but keep an eye on me so I get it right. I’m a 2nd amendment absolutist, but I don’t follow this stuff as closely as you.

.50 Caliber Nonsense
Via Say Uncle, I see that County Supervisors Gayle Uilkema and John Gioia propose to ban the sale of .50 caliber rifles in unincorporated Contra Costa County as a “public safety measure.” Now, of course the anti-gun folks are looking…
