Damn you, bourbon
I love bourbon. Unfortunately, it can ruin your plans. See, prior to going to my neighbors house and slamming down approximately 5 bourbons, I had a thought for a post. This post was the end-all-be-all of posts. Blogging and conflict would have ceased to exist. It would have solved all problems in the world. We would have all gotten along. Democrats, Republicans, Libertarians, libertarians, independents, all would have worshiped me for my clarity of thought and euphonious insights into the general nature of life, the universe, and everything. EVERYTHING! I’m pretty sure the post involved guns, furry slippers and ruthless efficiency but now we’ll never know. I would have likely won a Nobel prize, gotten a bitchin’ cabinet position or some shit.
But no. Bourbon is a harsh mistress. And to think, I planned on applying some wood stain to some furniture and was going to take apart my Ruger 10/22. Did I mention that when I get a new gun, the first thing I do is take it apart to see how it works? Probably not. This, coincidentally, makes the wife nervous despite my assurances that I don’t even have ammo for the gun within 10 feet of it. Actually, it makes her nervous that I put it back together and then take it shooting. Go figure. Bourbon ruined those plans too.
I realize I am babbling incoherently now but that’s what bourbon does. Did I mention that I love bourbon? I have now violated the don’t drink and blog rule so I’ll stop.

Geez, if I only blogged stone cold sober I’d never get any writing done.
So fess up. What was the bourbon? I drink Evan Williams Single Barrel for sipping and Evan Williams black label for mixing, but I’m always open to new distilleries.

I tend to stick to a little known Potatoe Vodka from Austria called Monopolowa….
But I hear bourbon is nice!

Southern Comfort has the same effect on me. In fact, it had that effect just tonight. 🙂
Good to see Cinomed isn’t allowing the Dan Quayle school of spelling “potato” to die.

Les Jones,
For a smooth sippin’ whiskey I’d recommend Makers Mark.
But I have to admit I haven’t abandoned the impetuous redneck ways of my youth & usually when I’m in the mood for whiskey it’s either SoCo, Jim or Jack. Although I’m not above Dickel or Turkey if it’s offered.
Now after my grandfather passed I inherited a bottle of some stuff called Old Setter. Had a pic of a bird dog holding a nice point & the caption read “It points the way”. It was probably cheap to middle priced stuff but it’d had aged for a few decades at least so it was “mature” to say the least. No idea how it’d taste sans a decade or two of aging cause they don’t make it anymore (least not that I can find) but if you find soem holler & i’ll be on my way.

Gentleman Jack.

Sadly, last night I was having beam with my neighbor (it was his). I prefer Knob Creek and Makers Mark.

I drank Jim Beam in college. Our logic was “Slash from Guns and Roses drinks it, and so does George Jones.”
I switch around sometimes if there’s a sale, or if someone recommends another brand. I had some Maker’s Mark last month. I had forgotten how good it was. Wild Turkey isn’t as good as I remembered.
Old Granddad is a good mixing whiskey. It’s a little hard to find. Woodford reserve is good for sipping, but I still like Evan Williams Single Barrel better.

so many stories of my best stories end with “but, then the Rebel Yell took all my well planned out ideas and turned them into sour mash.”
no i swear, world peace. honest.
😉

I’m more of a Scotch drinker, but Knob Creek is my usual bourbon.

Ahhh bourbon. I have a medicinal/emergency bottle of Knob Creek, but really really slather for Booker’s. I have my own story of the evil B clouding one’s judgement….one night, we had had quite enough wine to drink and thought we’d have a wee Booker’s nightcap…which took half a bottle (its smoothness should be illegal). There’s nothing like being in some big chichi poopoo meeting the next day trying to ignore your body rejecting itself.

…I keep a bottle of Wild Turkey – Russell’s Reserve for when company comes over… otherwise, it’s Scotch for me… and I agree with Les, blogging sober is the pits..

I’m looking for Rowan’s creek. i believe that it represents all that is fine in a whisky. they don’t seem to have it in kansas. where can i get some?
