I love the smell of demographics in the morning
Brian correlates red v. blue states in terms of gas prices. Red states have lower gas prices, apparently.
The trainer’s quote of the day has this snippet:
The murder rate in Gore counties, 13.2 per 100,000 residents, contrasted with 2.1 in the Bush counties.
Looks like gun and environmental controls are working as expected.
Update: Via Phelps, the murder rate quote is fabricated: The quote has been shown to be a lie. The actual ratio is about 6.5 to 4.1.

The quote has been shown to be a lie. The actual ratio is about 6.5 to 4.1. This is a classic case of coming up with a lie when the truth does just as well. The murder rate is significantly higher, but this stupidly exagerated state just gives ammunition to the Gore camp.

“State” should be “stat”

I don’t know how much you can chalk up to gun control at the county level. Illinois and New York have huge differences at the city level, but California has none, apart from local variations in discretionary issue of CCWs. Shall issue states don’t even have that much variation, yet they do exhibit the same trends in terms of murder rate vs. political leanings. So clearly there is something else going on besides guns (though I don’t doubt they are a factor).
