Clarke’s Street Cred Suffers

Clinton’s policy papers don’t mention Al Qaeda. They do, however, mention OBL. Critics claim this undercuts Clarke’s credibility. It also is rather supportive of my prediction here.

From Kevin, who is ill today:

  2. He ignores the fact that the Washington Post pointed out over the weekend that Clarke’s closed door testimony in 2002 did not contradict his testimony before the commission — a huge boost to his credibility
  3. I wasn’t aware that OBL wasn’t a huge part of al-Qaeda
  4. It doesn’t say when this was written in the article
  5. It doesn’t contradict the history of actions that Clinton took with regards to terrorism
  6. It doesn’t contradict anything in Clarke’s testimony about Bush’s lack of actions
  7. It doesn’t contradict anything in any of the half dozen or so security official who have resigned form the Bush Administration in disgust
  8. It doesn’t contradict anything about the private discussions that all parties agree took place
  9. It says nothing about what the Clinton Administration told Congress in classified briefings — i.e. what Clinton told the Congressmen who could be trusted not to [leak] to FOX news
  10. I could go on, but you get the point. Look at what was done, and not at papers designed to make things understandable for Congress

I don’t think we’re disagreeing (yet!). I’m just following up on my prediction. I will be curious to see how it pans out.

Sadly, I think both sides are so intent on blaming each other than we won’t get any semblance of what really happened. After all, who knows what the bush admin did behind closed doors.

This much, at least, we can agree upon. But it sets of my BS-o-meter when one side admits that mistakes were made, and the other does not. Praticularly when your own people (e.g. Clarke, O’Neill) are contradicting your version of events.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
