If there existed secular organizations that provided the sense of community, the common moral instruction, the common moral instruction, the general psychological well-being of the group, and simultaneously provided aid to the needy, then religion would rapidly become extinct.
It seems that religious groups, for whatever reasons, do a far better job than secular groups on most of these scores. As a secularist, I say this by way of self-censure.
